Red Book

This student book is the first of a series of Carden readers. New readers use the sounds of the consonants, blends, and long sounds of the vowels to enjoy reading words and sentences. The children develop their own mental pictures of the stories they read. Teachers know that their students are reading, not guessing, because there are no illustrations to provide clues to the content. Read through the book twice, according to lesson plans in the teacher’s companion text, Questions for Developing Comprehension and Building a Speaking Vocabulary.
